About Lt. Shri S.J.Ashar Program Series

Lt. Shri S.J.Ashar Program Series is a social-education program designed to study and contribute to Rajkot city development.

Who is S J Ashar? 

Late Shri Sharadbhai Jamnadas Ashar (1934 – 2021) served as the City Engineer in Rajkot Municipal Corporation, and his career spanned from 1964 to 2017. He contributed to the urban development of Rajkot, Morvi, Jamnagar, Bhuj and various cities in Saurashtra region. This program is in the memory of his dedicated service towards society.

What is the Shri S. J. Ashar - Program Series? 

It is a project initiated with the aim to involve students in understanding the challenges in city development, establish technical standards and values in the public works, and appreciate the contribution of various senior experts for their contribution in the city development. It started in 2021 with its pilot program; the program has entered its 3rd consecutive year in 2023. 

 

The program focuses on various subjects like Water Management,  Solid Waste Management (SWM), Urban Transport, and Smart City. We don't expect any direct funding support, expecting RMC and people's support and guidance limited to the students' education and improving citizen awareness.  There are no fees for the students. 

 

Program Objectives:

1.       To address the City Development challenges

2.       To establish the engineering values

3.       To recognize the contribution of the senior, sincere, and honest engineers who have served society

What is this program about? 

This program starts on  Engineers’ Day, 15 September, birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya,  and ends on National Youth Day, 12 January, birth anniversary of Shri Swami Vivekanamda, every year. Remembering great engineer and holy saint of India who is symbol of belief that young minds can solve the problems with scientific spirit using appropriate technology and delivers the best as social services.
